Distributor internal weights/spring tension

The Scout runs fine, just looking to tweak maybe some better/smoother running efficiency?

Question: I am in the process of pulling the Disto out and "going through it". Re: the little springs that "tension" the timing weights. How loose or firm should they be? mine are just a tad short of loose, meaning that I can move the weights with very little finger pressure.

Should the be "firm"? and/or what would be the correct tension? are there replacements springs available? and do "stiffer" springs help with the timing at high RPM's?

Thanks all,

while I am at it:

would like to replace the original coil.

1. is the stock coil the same for 4 cyl or 8 cyl?
2. and/or what is the difference?

I do realize that these engines do not crank lots of horse power, just looking to maximize the stock truck. Any particular brands to use (or to stay away from)? Would a higher voltage coil work better, or just stay with stock?
