Disk Brake Conversion

I have ordered a rear brake convesion and a new proportioning valve from IHOnly for a 77 Scout with the stock d44. I have stripped the old drums off.

- do I need to, or should I, replace the steele line brake line on the axle? I already have a braided line for the 4 inch lift.

- does the proportioning vavle use the stock fittings or do those need replaced?

- can I reinstall the axles prior to installing the disk?

I have also scored a jy hydra-boost unit. I have read bill's write up at justinternationals. During his upgrade he modified the power steering pump to increase pressure.

- how necessary is this step?

You dont have to, but at the very least, I would cut the last several inches or so off, and convert to a soft line from the axle to the caliper. Makes removing them much easier if you dont need to pull the brake line itself.

Depends on the prop valve, or are you talking about a combination valve? A prop valve (say like a wilwood or something) will have pipe thread fittings, that will need to be converted over to inverted flare as shown in jeffs picture of a prop valve.

According to his picture, the rotors are a floating design, so yes you can

Depends on the hb unit used and the pump. Go to a webiste called vancopbs.com. Iirc, van has some good tech info there about required pressure, and stock pressure from saginaw pumps, etc. Modding a saginaw high pressure fitting is simple, but you need to be careful not to over do it, lest you start blowing sector shaft seals.

For some light reading, I am linking a rear disc write up I did for a Ford sterling rear end. There is a lot of info you dont need there, but it has lots of pics, with descriptions of parts, and other places to locate fittings, etc.
