Dash pad Rehab

Here's some before and after shots of my dash pad. Its from my '79 sii. I took it to the guy who did my seats. He hit me for $75. A little less that the $600 I was quoted from just dashes.

No pics of the prep unfortunately. But all I did was chip away the loose plastic. Also the areas that were cracked, as those edges curled up. Then I used spray foam from home depot to fill in the low spots. Using a bondo spreader helped trowel it all in place. When it dried, I hit it with some 80 grit on the sander. Once it was flat, there were still some low spots that the foam missed. I used some spot filler and re-sanded. Then the upholstery shop sprayed on thick glue and covered it in black naugahyde.
If you look close, you can tell its not factory original. But its a thousand times better than it was.
I'll do the one from the '74 truck next!

Looks great. Won't be doing any interior work on mine for about a year so I will revisit this thread then and find out how it held up. I expect it will hold up great.

For what a real good job was going to cost, I pondered taking it to a place that rubber coats baskets and such. Just have them dip it and see what happens, right?
The other thought was to have it rhino-lined. That will catch all kinds of dirt though. For the money, the upholstery job was the best option. Hoping the sun won't destroy it in 2 years, but I'll keep you informed if it does.
Thanks for the sentiment, and good luck with yours.
