dana 300 vs dana 20

I am taking the body off frame for some rust repair and am going to set up fuel lines and wiring for fuel injection and replace other dicey items as they pop up I have an 80 Dana 300 as well as a couple of Dana 20s what are the pros and cons of the 300 vs 20 my Scout is mostly a daily driver but use the 4 wheel drive a bunch in the winter and when checking livestock.

The biggest pro by far is the additional low range gearing - 2 to 1 for the Dana 20 versus 2.62 to 1 for the Dana 300. Cons are it is a one year only item so if a couple of the Scout only parts in it breaks it May be harder to find replacements. However a lot of the gears inside and such can be obtained from a 1980-86' Jeep. Other con is that the Dana 300 only has four mounting bolts versus five on the Dana 20.

Thanks Jeff for what I use it for I guess I will stick with my Dana 20 and stick the IH 300 under the shop bench along with the auto tranny its stuck to. At least until the wife figures I have way to much Scout stuff stashed around here.
Thanks again
jim

I'm looking a converting an auto to a t19, have done the swap about 20 years ago on an SSII with no problems. The question I have is the t19 I am buying is from a 79 Scout which currently has a Dana 300 attached (confirmed 300), I have a Dana 20 on my auto. You mentioned the Dana 300 has a 4 bolt pattern vs the Dana 20 having a 5 bolt. So I am assuming I cannot bolt my Dana 20 on the back of the t19 if purchased. If the Dana 20 will bolt on the t19 will the gear on the tail shaft of the t19 fit into the Dana 20? Anyone know if this will work?

Thanks

I just found out the bull gears are different on the 20 vs the 300, anyone have a Dana 20 bull gear for a t19?

Yes the d20 will work on the t19. The Dana 300 only uses 4 of the 5 holes available due to the larger gear set inside. The hole for te d20 will be there and is the bottom "texas" bolt.

I will have a Dana 20 bull gear for a manual t19 close ratio this week if you're interested. Just shoot me a pm.
