D Series Hydroboost/ Rear Disc Conversion

Hello IH Community,

I am looking for information on converting a D series Travelette to hydroboost brakes. I am specifically working on a 1970 1200D. In addition to the hydroboost, I am swapping in a Chevy Dana 44 front axle with discs and I am looking for a rear disc kit for the IH Dana 60 rear. No, I do not NEED rear discs but I wouldn’t mind some added braking power. Also, I know that I could swap in a Corporate 14-bolt but I would like to keep the IH Dana 60 for now.

Anyone know what adapters I need to mount the hydroboost? And what make/model/year hydroboost would best fit this application?

Will any of the Ford or Dodge rear disc kits work on the IH Dana 60?

Thank you,
ThePickle

IH parts America, who also supports this forum, does have one complete hydro boost kit for the scout II's. No clue if it will fit the IH truck's. Best to call them up and find out.

I read through more forums and emailed with IHPA about what hydroboost works on the D series trucks. The hydroboost kit offered by IHPA will work but the firewall plate and pushrod need to be modified for application in a pickup. I also read of others using various units from the astro van, CUCVs, suburbans etc.

Sounds like it is just a matter of mounting the hydroboost to the firewall with the pushrod inline with the brake pedal and spaced off the firewall so the pushrod is the right length.

I used a unit from a 2015 Silverado 2500HD, works great.

Dwh,

Excellent, thank you for sharing. Can you share info on the lines? Part numbers used and the angled spacer on the mount?

Thank you.

I made the angled mounting bracket from a block of aluminum, and welded the original push rod from my travelette.

Master cylinder 1741283
Booster 1780916
CPP hydroboost hose kit HAHK-R6

I also added a cooler and filter, but don’t have part numbers.

works great!
