CPT Extended Shock Tower Install

Just picked up a pair of the CPT extended shock towers and was wondering how you guys running them install them. Obviously I'll weld them up over bolting, or maybe both for an extra bit of security, but it's the angle I'm more concerned with.

I'm running Dana 44's, SOA with stock springs and 5" shackles. Should I have the new towers angled to match the stock tower or is it better to run them at a different angle?

Have you looked at our builds-ups? Lots of pictures showing them mounted up. Otherwise there's really not much to them just make sure the shocks have clearance all the way around them. Don't stick them out too far as the tires can rub on them.

I looked at the build-ups and did noticed that you had mounted them in what looked to be the same spot as the stock tower. Did you keep the same angle back towards the firewall?

I just ground off my stock shock towers and am having a bit of trouble finding the right spot to mount the new extended ones. I went back and took another look at all your build threads but can't get a clear/close enough shot to see exactly at where positioned them. It looks like the bottom of the tower is not flush with the bottom of the frame rail. Am I correct in this observation?

Mount a shock to both the tower and the mount on the axle. Now move the tower around until you have equal clearance between the shock and the tower. Clamp in place and weld. If you have a gap between the shock tower and the frame then add gussets for additional support.

Thanks again Jeff. I was wondering about the gap issue. What angle gussets do you normally use if there is a gap? I was looking at the RuffStuff website to see what they have and it looks like they carry 120, 90 and 60 degree gussets. Any suggestions?

It would be much easier if the frame rail was flat instead of recessed in that spot. But like a lot of things on scouts, it just makes things more interesting to customize!

Check our fabrication category as we carry gussets as well. We sometimes use 2 120* and two of our 90* open cutout gussets when installing these towers.
