Clutch Cable/Linkage Adjustment

So I step on the clutch yesterday and it suddenly gives and almost goes to the floor. I've got so much slop now that it almost won't let me put it in gear. Here's the problem...I've no clue how to adjust the clutch and in a week I've got to turn it over to the shippers to get it transported to my new house.

Help please. I'll snap some photos if it'll help.

Here's a scan of the parts list for the s800 clutch actuator for the 304. The system for the 266 engine is a bit different.

Use this to go through the entire operational system.

Most likely points would be one of the pivot pins in a clevis has fallen out, the adjustable pushrod May have bent due to over-extension, or one of the fulcrum pivot brackets May have loosened dropped out.

The throwout fork, woodruff key and setscrew are inside the bellhousing and not accessible without removing the bellhousing. It's possible that the setscrew loosened allowing the woodruff key to shear, but not likely. In that case, part #18 "release shaft" would be actuated normally by the pedal and all free play in the linkage would be normal also, but the throwout fork would no longer be connected to the shaft and therefore could not compress the clutch cover fingers to release the clutch.

Here's what I found. Looks like maybe the cable is frayed and it looks like a b!@#$tch to replace...not to mention getting one in hawaii. How does it look to you?

That is the "other" clutch actuation system, the one that is shown in mt-123 parts list for 800a&b, I don't have a copy of that document.

Anyway, your cable is toast.

The light line p/n for that item is 434 797-c1. Call michael at the shop (ihon) and have him check stock on that item. Tell him you posted about this on the forum, he'll know what ya mean.

If ihon doesn't have the item in stock and shippable right away, then contact Isa and talk to him, he's showing it in his online store:

Thanks, he's checking and will call me back. Looks like I can pull it from the engine bay, right? Looking under the dash it looked like I need toddler hands to replace it.

Isa had it in stock, he's sending it 2 day ups...should be here by Monday so I can fix it and drive it to the ship for transport by wed/thur.

I've never delt with the clutch cable replacement on an s800 so I don't know the process. You might email Isa about that directly, I'm sure he and royse have replaced many!

super easy...remove cotter pin at bottom, remove 4 bolts holding housing on firewall behind dash, remove cotter pin at top (I loosened the bump stop to give me better access), replace cable, replace cotter pin at top, replace housing, replace cotter pin at bottom, and readjust the clutch pedal bump stop.

Attached is a photo of the shredded cable. Funny that before I sailed the Scout to hawaii I had to have Isa fab something to keep the cable together, you can see the remnants in the photo (wish I just had him replace it then). The funny part is that now that I'm sailing the Scout back to the mainland I had to call on Isa to save my clutch cable again. Much thanks to Isa filling my order fast.

Oh, and its amazing how well it shifts now...shocking.
