Chevy front axle u-bolt size

I just picked up Chevy d44 front out of a 76 k1500 to do an SOA with. I had originally planned to go with the Scout axle and purchased the ubolts, plates and perches from here. But now I know they wont work with this Chevy front. It has 3" tubes and I'm trying to measure what the Ubolt sizes will be for the housing. So far I'm ending up with 3-3/4" for the wider one and 3-1/4" for narrow one is that right?
I will be using the Scout springs so from what the ruff stuff site says I need to gind the perch to fit the 3" tube, so that's covered. I believe the plate I have will work for the drivers side but I think it wont work for the passenger side due to the Ubolt being to wide on the housing?
Also what size shim do I need for the housing 4* or 6*?

Just tell Jeff that you have 3" axle tubes and he will hook you up. The shim question will vary on your application. Springs, rs, etc.

Easiest way is to by a u-bolt kit for a Chevy front axle (most charts list the 3" tube as a later "10-bolt" axle... Same tube diameter. Earlier chev d44 has smaller 2.75" tubes).

Rancho makes a nice kit and gets you hd, gold-cad plated bolt washers and nuts. Junk yard (or ruff stuff) source a set of Chevy plates, 1/4" (or better) flat-stock shims on each side of the spring pack to help support the springs to the bolts and run it. Or you can grind the center section to take up some of the gap, and use a 2" perch on the drivers side. Then make your own top plates (or I think Jeff May have them).

If you had a change in plan, bought the parts from us, and the parts are still in new condition we will exchange them for you free of cost as long as you pay for shipping and as long the parts are valued the same. The Ubolt plates we sell will work on either Scout or GM housings - right or left sides. Same with the ubolts and perchs - you just specify what you need upon ordering.

As for the shims thats for you to decide when setting up your front axle.

Jeff, thanks for the offer to buy back the parts but I will keep them for another project that might be on the horizon.

I guess from what I've learned, I will need 2 3" ubolts and a shim.
