Chevy 44

Can someone please help. I recently purchased a 65 Scout with Dana 27's both front and rear. I really want to swap both axles to Chevy Dana 44's. Does anyone know how much they would stick out if left at stock size. I understand that the perches need to be moved. I'm trying to replace axles without having to cut and weld (other than perches). If anyone knows other alternative for Chevy that would make it a bolt on please let me know.

Not sure on Scout 80 but would guess its the same width as a Scout 800. The rear axle measures 57" wms to wms. My front is taken apart so I can't get an exact measurement but would guess its about the same.

I like the Ford half ton axles just because of the same bolt pattern. I dont have to go lookin for rims I like. The 5 on 5.5 keeps me happy.

I would find some Scout II Dana 44's that way you get the luxury of front discs and trash loc.

The Ford axles are full width and will be almost identical to the Chevy axles. A 79 Bronco has good axles. I know. I stole em. Only problem is it was SOA.

Relocating perches and rerouting brake lines is always fun. :icon_rolleyes::icon_rolleyes:

A Scout 80 has axles that are about 56" wide.
A Scout II is about 59" wide
a 1/2 ton Chevy is right about 67.5"
fords can be anything from about 64" to 69" depending oin the year make and model -- but they are all drivers side drop front axle so they will not work with your current transfer case.

I'd find a set of Scout II axles or a set of 70's wagoneer axles.

Gmc, in mid 70's, had a Dana 44 front with passenger side drop and is already SOA. But it's a full width axle like the Chevy. I have a bare housing from a gmc here on the bench that I'm planning on massaging to fit under one of my Scout II's.
