Cell Phone

I'm not a techie when it comes to multi-media, or today's phones with more gadgets and widgets than I could remember if I had one. So, all I need is a good cell phone with decent voice, and user friendly. Kinda like the old western electric ones that weighed 3 lbs, came in one color, but for today's world.
Our contract for the one I have is up for renewal and a low cost upgrade for the phone. I'd keep the slider I had, but the ribbon cable in it wore out so I'm on a "loaner". Those sliders are neat, but I will shy away from them now.
Would anyone have some suggestions for a basic cell phone?
 
I use my phone for the same basic stuff. I keep them until they quit working, then get another one.

I have at&t - and have been getting there little flip phones (currently samsung phones). The last 2 I have had were terrible, they slipped out of your hand, without looking at them you couldn't tell which way was up so you had to actually look at them to open them half the time. They have also made it more than one or two button pushes to do the basic stuff. While directing you to the 'web' or 'texting' in only one push, with no real option to switch it to another task.... Argghhh!

The previous flip phone I had, had the 'fake' 1/4" antenna sticking out one corner. It made it not slip out of your hand and made it easy to orient in the dark, without looking, etc. And it had one button to go to wherever you wanted..


If you find a good one, let me know.
 
Boy howdy on that one chris, I hear ya loud and clear. I talked to some sales persons at phone/electronic stores, they'd laugh when I call them soap bars. The old slider had the best easy to use one button pull up the contact list and hit the dialer button, and the screen had large text so I could see the time without glasses, even on a sunny day. Alas, it is no more.

If and when I find one, I will post it here for you to see.
 
Well chris, I think I found a decent phone. It's at&t's tundra. It's a brick for sure. It's easy to hold, and button navigation is pretty easy; a thumb will reach just about any feature or call list. Reception is superb. I get good signals in some areas of campus that are so poor even verizon doesn't do well in. I've heard verizon is supposed to be pretty good. Overall it is very rugged for the work I do, and easy to use without a menu tree like a rabbit warren. I like the notification features you can change on the fly. I can go to silent mode when going to a meeting by just a couple of exterior button presses without having to flip it open. Now remembering to put it back to audible is another matter. Sound quality ain't bad, everyone I talk to is clear as a bell.

When it comes to brand, nokia is the best as a user friendly phone. But when it comes to durability alcatel is the best.
