Cam measurements; any good?

Hi,

machinist measured up my cam. His advice is leave it alone and put it back in. I am not so sure.

All the lobes are:
254 - 256 (only one 254) except one 249
230 - 232 (only one 230) except one 228

had one lifter not turning. Guess which one.

Should I go with new cam and lifters, or reinstall cam with replacements for the couple lifters with un-even wear?

There will be no appreciable life. You have the cam out and it has odd wear, replace it. Likely the new lifters will gaul and self destruct. The debris will take out the rest of the engine. Spend the extra money now and enjoy the IH for many 1000's of more miles.

Sorry for the doom and gloom..
What would be the worst possible scenario is I tell you it'll be fine and you damage the engine. I prefer to error on the side of certainty or most likely to succeed. :yesnod:

No worries.

Block, heads, crank are all back from the machinist and laying on my living room floor. I did not want them to rust in the unheated garage while I am waiting for the parts to build it.

Been using my kids (now 20) little tikes plastic wagon to haul the engine block around. It sags a little in the middle, but rolls on my gravel driveway! Glad I kept it!
