BOOOM!

Was driving my Scout home yesturday, and I heard a clicking sound and though it was a u-joint and then a loud boom but it wasn't the driveline? I checked the hubs and I think the hubs were about half engauged? How do I check the hubs and the transfer case for damage? I had it in 2wd on the transfer case? I was able to drive it all the way home? Its was like something was trying to engauge? I have a 76 terra w/ 345. Help if you can, thanks.

First thing is to take the [locking] Hubs apart and look for pieces that don't look right.

Pretty easy, you'll need a 9/16" socket and extension, and allen wrench set and a pair of decent snap ring pliers. If all that checks out clean then, lightly grease them (don't pack, coat) and put them back on, then find a nice dirt/sand/gravel area and test out 4wd in various situations to make sure everything is still working. Then go from their.

Look what I've found? I was steam cleaning and low and behold there it was! I think the source of the boooom! Picture is kind of hard to see but you can see the u-joint sticking out and the the hole in it goes into is busted. Now I guess I get to learn how to replace the drivrers side front axle shaft. Are there any thread showing the proceeder on this this?

It is not as bad as it sounds
just take off the brake caliper and zip tie it up out of the way
remove the locking hub
remove the spindle nuts
slide off rotor
remove the next set of spindle nuts, slide it off with the backing plate
pull old axle out through the knuckle, then put a new one in.
