Best way to get rid of surface rust?

I’m new to this forum and mechanics In general, I just bought an IHC 1973 1210 stepside and it has a lot of coral-like surface rust on the hood and roof, im just looking for advice on the best way to get rid of it without damaging the metal underneath too much. theres more larger problems with the 1210 but the surface rust was one of the things i didnt know much about. thanks, i can give more details if you need

Give a good pressure wash then take some Comet and a sponge. Put enough to make a thin paste and scrub it. Then post an after picture. ;-)

i dont have access to a power washer, its in a large yard with no access to water, there is an air hose & air tank but they are not mine, i will take that comet and sponge idea though, ill see what i can do

Saw it last week on a Junkyard Diggs youtube. It worked great for them and looks like it worked pretty good for you. Now for some patina sauce and your golden, at least the bottom half.
