best fluid

Hey guys.
We have a 74 Scout 2...345...727...all stock
was wondering what tranny fluid would be best...dex mer iii...atf 3 or aft 4 full syn?

It shift kinda strange..but fully engages...just a bit sloppy inbetween...sat for years...existing fluid is clean..but really old.

The fluid thats spec is plain old dexron. No synthetics, no snake oils or any bullshit additives. Just plain old dexron. Dex 2 ,3 and so on will work. Its all backwards compatible. Just be sure if your droppin the juice to read the thread on adjusting the bands and do that step. Its the life of these old slushboxes.

Thanks guys..almost put aft 4...sounds like that would a been a bad move.
