base plate surface

Gentlemen, just recieved a new 2300 Holley. I believe I am either nuts or there is a high spot in the middle of the base. Any experiance with this?
...as soon as I get this sorted out I can donate the 2210 and leftovers from the genuine Holley kit to who ever needs a emission legal carb.
....ps I might be just nuts anyway....bobn aka garage door Bob

Bobn,
you can check it with a straight edge. If it is not warped maybe you are nut's???

but seriously I suppose it is possible to have the base not be flat
ootb but I have not seen one.

As for the extra parts I'm sure mr mayben can find a use for the unwanted parts. He's on a road trip right now but will check in tomorrow.

I checked it with a straight edge. The four corners are flat, but diagonally there is a hi spot in the center between the throttle bores. Bobn

Over tightening of the screws that hold the throttle body to the bowl assembly will warp it. If the butterflies are free and smooth I would give it a go.

Well Robert, I loosened the base screws and then retightened them. They are a no 3 phillips. I snugged it down to the manifold being unusually carefull. I used the thicker insulated type gasket with the steel inserts and with the flap that keeps the accel pump cooler. Bobn

Good ta hear from ya Bob the door man!!!!

A new 2300 witha a warped throttle body??? No way!!!!

Do you mean..."new to you"??

The mounting ears will break off long before the throttle body will warp when either tightened down incorrectly, or the wrong gasket/spacer stack is used inna non-stock setup.

If it'sa list 7448 center hung, then a new throttle body is an easy item to purchase. If it's a 2300 oem (side hung float bowl), then most of those are also available new, and we have quite a few nice used ones, I ship one about every week once I've cleaned and inspected. There are many variations though, the throttle body must match the list for the carb in question.

The number one secret to making Holley modular carbs play nice...is to tighten those throttle body screws to a point just under strippage...after applying some loctite "blue". And if it ever needs to come apart again, then the screws will come out real nice if the proper phillips tip is used as you mentioned.

And if by some kinda freak occurance the manifold side of the throttle body is out of plane, then that's easy to correct using machine shop services or what I do...a "redneck mill" job...and surface it onna belt grinder/sander. Doing that is part of all carb overhauls I do on those units, makes 'em look real purdy!

Hiya Mike! Yea brand new not remanned. And not a scrapped unit repackaged. New from summit and in original boxing. However I confess my straight edge was a surface ground parallel bars from my gunsmith school days. So I might be a little bit fussy.
...the 2210 carb I am replacing is one I got from bill usn1. I never did take care of him with trade materials. So if you know somebody who needs a emssion carb I should pass it on. It has a new Holley brand power valve in it. It lacks in pump shot and seems to run Rich. Being I have raced enough cars with Holley modular carbs I like their tunnability much more. Sorry for the book! Bobn

Don't know what it is about summit...I've handled two new 2300 (7448) mixers sourced from them. Both had issues and could not be made to provide a stable idle. And I kinda do know my way around these mixers. The incidents occurred about three months apart.

When we contacted summit cuserv they of course blamed everything on me/poor fuel/bad install/wrong carb/contaminated fuel tank/vacuum leaks/etc. And no recourse on a return since it had been over thirty days since shipped. Excuse me...some folks buy shit years in advance of using it, this crap is a hobby...not life itself! They would not back down!

In both cases we contacted Holley techserv and explained the issue and the fact that summit advised no recourse. The Holley dude could not have been any more helpful and acknowledged that several part number metering blocks used in the modular series had faulty machining do to some tooling failure that went undetected. In both cases they sent me a rma immediately referenced to the "case" we opened over the phone, with an explanation they knew there were many carbs produced that were butched but had no way to tack where they were shipped as they are not serialized. And apologized profusely.

And in both cases they immediately shipped replacement carbs without waiting for the returns to hit their dock.

Ever since then, I'll source nothing from summit, they could have just "handled" this and retained a customer, instead they blew me off but Holley kept a customer! We now source all our Holley stuff from the Holley distributor for the nw.

I'll say this...if a new throttle body is not "flat", I'm sure Holley techserv would be real interested in that issue!
