We had a great time with the poker run at the wcwn this year ! We do need to make some improvments tho . I'm thinking about fabing some "sign post " . We could use them at other events also , rally , picknick , ect .
I have a few desines in minde . Basicly the should probly be about 4' tall . A sign about 18" squair . A amo can attached to hold envlopes / cards & keep em watter tight . They must be colapsabul for ease of transportation . Stable heavy enough to hold up to weather (wind) .
I'm a littel stuck on the base . I have used old plow disc blades for such projects in the past . I am a litte conserned about the weight of using disc blades tho. And I dont have any . So if any one has some to donate or a other idea that would be great ! The rest of the materal I should be able to scroung up .
I am thinking we could probly fab these up at the next work day . I have a few other group projects in minde also.
I have be wanting to build a RTI ramp for a while now . Something betwen the one IHSTO is buildind (check there thred way cool ) and the one we use at the rally . Want it to be coladpabul so it would fit in a pick up .
Also building some washing machine tub fire pits came up at the wcwn . We could use them at most of our events also .
Sooooo throwing a few ideas out there any takers volinters ?

For the leg of the sign post/mail box - how about 1" or 2" square tube about 4 feet tall. Then use a spike about 3 feet long hammered a foot into dirt. Than all ya gotta do is slide the 1" or 2" tubed sign post on.

RTI ramp - I'm all for it. We could make it so it can be towed like a trailer. Then when not being used, have a removeable tongue slide out for stow. Then stand it up on end out of the way. We May not have to go the full size rims/tires like ihto planed. I May have access to actual trailer tires and suspension. Not free tho. I would have to check pricing and weight capacity and availability

also, I am all for doing that, as a work day here in my man cave. I prety much have all the tools needed to fab it all up.

Terry and the IHSTO guys recently built an RTI ramp. Here's the build thread

This would be the easiest

I am thinking we need a base on the "sign post" because we want to be able to place them on any surface . As for the the RTI ramp I was thinking of it being more of modual assimbly for ease o f transportation and storage but I am open to sugestions .

For a base, two options come to mind. In theory of using a tube, round or square, we can make a base plate with a short, 6" roughly, of a shaft welded to a 10x10 plate then the tube post slides onto it. Drilled small hole on tube and shaft for 1/4-20 bolt for a pin holding them together

then for un even ground, use a spike hammered into dirt to hold the tube upright. Also being drilled to use some sort of pin holding it in place

**edit**
another option for the sign post base is a 5 gallon (or smaller) bucket of concrete with a short piece of stub shaft sticking out. Then you can slide the sign post onto the stub shaft. Can always drill and tap the post for easy removal of sign and/or ammo box

That's kinda where I was kicken ideas around in building something for babs. If it's made no longer than 10' than it could easily be stood up on end and tucked into corner somewhere out of the way. Also, it could be built with a few shelves and storage compartments for carring supplies

I don't know what the laws are in oregon but if you plan on trailering the ramp on the highway in collie-fornya, its gonna have to be dmv registered. And before dmv will register it, they're gonna want a chp inspection.
So it's gonna need brake lights, turn signals, license plate illuminator and if it's over a certain gtwr it will need trailer brakes. It will have to have trailer tires, not passenger car tires, etc.

If I were to build an RTI ramp, I think I would start with an old but still registered boat trailer. You could move the axle to the top of the frame for clearance or you could just cut the fenders off and flip the whole trailer over.

Just my two cents worth....

I have an RTI ramp so... I can lift it into a pickup and bring it to next event its made of round tube and expanded metal ill get some pics when I get a new phone or camera. I am thinking of making it more portable it is heavy and large.

A friend has 3 washing machine tubs used for fire pits.

They can be used as 3 separate ones, but the best is when you stack all 3.
Then we put a piece of sheet metal on the top, covering 75% of the top, it forces all the heat out through the sides.

It's really great when it's cold.
We've camped @ moonrocks below freezing & it was toasty within 10-15 feet of the fire.

Plus the height makes the smoke blow above your head while in camping chairs.

All resions I wanted to stay away from a trailor desine . Plus storage becomes a issue . Vance please post up some pics maby we can do some tweekin on it . If you are willing to transport . Cary was thinking (and I agree) it would be cool to bring it out to the diner one summer night , kinda goes along with the IH. Inspired car/truck show we could have there . = cary , moose maby we need to start a other thred ?

I have one tub in my busted washing machine and rob might have another one.. And ill give up some of my time to help build anything you guys want.. I like the sound of a collapsible RTI ramp, but who has a pickup that can fit the ramp and all of their camping stuff? We might need to do a trailer set up.. Could we just strap it down to a small boat trailer that someone already has? (like jayson's) and on another note, I have tons of old sign we could modify into the poker runs stands.. Just a thought though..

Ramone what do you have as far as sign material ? I thinking aluminum plate or sheet metal around 18"x18" or so . I have a line on some perfect post materal (2x2 sq tube w/holes on all sides 4" on center) . As for bases I'm still looking for enough plow disc blades .

And remember the 18"x18" sheet metal sail at the top.. With the wind we get those might go over.. What about a x of angle iron? Might be lighter then those drums.. The post could even slide on to them so they can collapse

no pix of his set up, but they are exactly like this .
no legs, no stand, open on both sides .
he drilled extra 1/2" holes for the bottom one .

Moca do you leave the center cone and bottom in the bottom one . Then cut it out of the 2 two others that get stacked on top so they act like a chimney :icon_question: or leave it in , if you leave the cone and bottom in you cant add wood to the bottom tub ?
