axle swap

Are early model j10 axles worth the time and money to swap in. They are 44's and are spring over. I am thinkin they are wider than Scout 2 axles and I can get the pair for 100 bucks the front is a disk det up and the rear is drum wastin my money or not? Thanks brad

The spring perch width is different than a Scout II, so there would still be a bit of fab work required.

The rear would be no stronger than a Scout II d44 and if you already have a d44 in the front, again no stronger.... Btu if you have a d30 front - or drum brake d44 front - the disc brake axle would be better.

What is your hopeful final goal with the Scout?? What do you do with it?

I'm wanting to ton it later on if I can afford it, right now I want to get wider tracks and do the sing over to accomodate 36 to 37 in tires I already have a 3in body lift and am having the rear springs redone to get em back in shape the main thing is spring over housing and the wider track. I thinkin they are close or the same as full size Chevy stuff. And the d44 strenghth is good for what I do offroad. Im pretty easy on stuff,I will put it thru its paces but I know how to use the torque and not the horses

I'm looking at doing the same thing except I'm robbing the axles from a j20. Dana 60 rear, 44 front. Kinda like chris said, unless your gaining an uprgrade he metioned, it'd be kind of a waste of time. Iirc I think the j20 axles are only an 1" to 1-1/2" wider than sii axles.?. I wouldn't think th j10 axles would be any wider.

The j10 stuff is between fullsize Chevy and Scout II width.

Scout II = 59" wms-wms
Jeep j10 = 64" wms-wms
1/2 ton Chevy = 67" wms-wms
3/4 ton - 1 ton Chevy = 69" wms-wms

all are plus of minus 0.5" and some have a different measurements for the front and rear axles....

Think I'm gonna grab em even if I dont use em, hell they're a bill. Maybe my son can use em on his sami powered buggy. Hes got sami axles and that would be an awesome upgrade. No weight and no horses, hell he'd never bustem. Well maybe not, you know kids. Give em a cannonball and a rubber hammer, you get pieces and a busted hammer lol

Wow, 59" vs. 64". I was a little off.

oh yea. The price is deffinately good. I would prob buy them too. Ya can never have to many extra axle parts, or yes, for a good sami project. :cornut:
