axle shims

Does anyone know if all axles need shims to get the proper angle needed. I'm working on the front Dana 44 swap into a 65 Scout 80. The c's have already been cut and turned to help with caster issues.

Not every axle build or vehicles are the same. Each and every build is slightly different. Some axles maybe lucky and don't need shims. Won't exactly know until you mount it under your rig. Then you be able to take some measurements to find out, if any, what degree shims you need

Scooter,

I don't have an engine yet should I wait till the motor is on and bolted in to see where the transfer case ends up pointing?

Do you have a front drive shaft installed? Is it binding up?

If you're worried about it now, you can used cinder blocks or what ever to get some weight on the front end. Personally, I would just wait till ya get the motor stabbed back in.

Only time I start worrying about degree shims on the axles is when the u-joints are binging up and/or the front end alignment is out of whack.
