Axle Identification Help...

Ive been trying to figure out what model and year this Dana 44 I purchased came out of for the past several months and have had minimal luck.
I know its a Dana 44 and I know its out of an International. I looked up the bom number that was stamped on the axle tube(603121 4) and on many sites it told me that it was out of a 68 – 71 Scout, Scout II, or traveler. There were also some other digits and letters in front of the bom(1 21 0a8) the "8" May be a "3" I cant tell though cause its starting to wear off on the axle.
I took some meassurements and the overall width from wms to wms is 56.4”(+/- an 1/8 of an inch) the axle shaft is 30 splines and is 27 17/32” both of the shafts are of equal length and are the one piece design. The bolt pattern is 5 on 5.5"
im trying to rebuild the axle before I throw it under my truck and knowing the exact model and year would greatly help with getting the right axle bearings and other parts that May differ from other 44s.
If pics are needed, let me know and I will post some.

Thanks

You have a late Scout 800 rear axle - flanged type.
The specs you describe fit it to a tee.

Scout II axles wider 58-1/2" wms-wms and have 28-1/4" axle shafts.

So would all the flanged Dana 44s have the same axle bearings? Ive also heard some not so good things about the flanged 44s. Whats wrong with them?
Anyone know the model year this axle came out of?

I think I meant I heard bad things about the tappered axle shafts. The 19 spline ones.
Also, is there a company that makes upgraded axle shafts for this axle? Or would I have to get them custom made?

I don't know anyone off the top of my head that makes upgraded Scout 800 rear axle shafts. The Scout II rear shafts can be had in alloy from a few vendors, but I've never seen the narrower ones.

The flanged axles are the way to go. Much better than the tapered shafts.

As for bearings you are correct both Scout II and 800 flanged d44's use the same timken set10 bearings.

As for model year the bom gives you that info 68-71 :icon_xd:
