Axle housing breathers

Has anyone done a photo walk through of putting hoses/extensions on their axle vents? If not, a few hints and I will do it. I was told I could just pry off the caps and clamp a hose on there with a filter of a sort on the other end and put it up higher out of the way of water, is this about all there is to it?

Thats about it, you can unthread them and put a hose barb in but usually thats not needed.
