I have a sent of d44 from a Scout 2 that have been narrowed with pearches for an 80 on them for a spring over that im trying to put into my Scout 80. I have purchased a new set of stock springs for the 80, I also have new CPT u-bolts and top plates for these axles wich are larger than the 80's stock parts. Im having a problem getting the springs on the axles and keeping them straight.

Is it better to mount the springs to the frame and then try to mount the axle to the springs or vice versa. When I try to mount them on my shop floor with the springs on the axles they twist and turn. Im also runnning into problems with the u-bolts, they are long, after the washers and nuts are on, how much of the bolt should be exposed above the nut, I have over 4" now. If anyone can think of anything I would appricate the help. I have ordered cv joints for the trans and transfer wich is the d20 4 speed to mate the trans and axle.

Thanks

Install the springs on the vehicle first. Then install the axles under the rig. After you have the u bolts tight, you can cut them so that you have about 1 inch of thread above the nut.
