I have a pinion angle question. I need to know the perfered front and rear pinion angles for my project. It is a 75 Scout II. I bought 4in springs and shackle reversal from IH only. The reversal is installed is per the instruction. Current angles are as follows: front is 2.5 degrees down and the rear is 4 degrees up. I have not installed any shims but the front steering linkage (that connects the spindles) is rubbing on the springs. I am affraid that if I install caster shims, in order to correct this problem, then the pinion angle will be even worse. I am curious about the proper caster angle at the knuckle as well. Here's the rules on pinion angles:

if you're using a pair of conventional u-joints, the pinion angle needs to parallel the transfercase output shaft angle. Perhaps you will want to add a degree or two to allow for axle twist under load. The rear axle would point down slightly, the front axle would point up slightly.

If you're using some form of cv joint, the pinion should point at the yoke on the transfercase, so that the u-joint on the axle end has no angle.

Caster is ideal between 4° and 6°. Anything over 2° should get the job done. Make double sure that both sides match, or it will always pull to the side.
