Another 4wd conversion ?

Hi guys. I'm new to this sight and enjoy it a lot so far. I have a pretty straight '72 1310 single rear wheel, 2wd that I'm thinking about converting to 4wd. It will be my daily driver and will be driven like a car much of the time. However, it my toe or haul some pretty good sized loads at times. My understanding is that 4x4 1310's had a Dana 70, closed knuckle out of the factory. These seem somewhat hard to come by. My question is, will I be disappointed with a d-60 front? They seem a lot more plentiful around here. What are the main differences between a 60 and 70? Thanks in advance, and thanks for this great site!

The best axle to look for would be a fa-52/02052 in the same gear rating as the rear axle. That would be a d70 in an "open knuckle" configuration.

Other than that, a d60 out of a chev would be near the same.

The transfer case was a np-205 (divorced). This is a relatively easy swap in.

If you can find an open knuckle king pin style Dana 60 - snatch it up and go with it. It was the standard for 1-ton trucks for the 20 years plus.

'if' you can find an open knuckle d70 - get that too!! They are 100% pure beef. They have been used in heavy 1-tons and 1.25 ton applications (tow trucks, cab and chassis's, etc) for years.

Anything bigger than that is over kill for anything this side of 42 inch tires and 600 hp.
