after brake bleed

When I bleed the brakes(disc in front- drums on back) I get a nice firm pedal- when I start it up (power brakes new master but old booster) the brakes are kind of soft and I can not lock them up- it's been over 5 years ( and a stroke later-sheesh) I dont remember if this is the norm- oh btw new calipers in front new brake job in back -

Give this a try, start the truck press the brake pedal down and hold it, while holding it turn off the truck, if pedal goes down further your probably looking at a bad booster.
The other test is to pull the vacumm hose off the booster and see if your engine starts missing, it kind of depends just how bad your booster is for that to work.

After engine shut off---- if the pedal went down wouldn't that be a bad master cylinder or a brake fluid leak some where ??

If the pedal pushes back against you a bad booster or a vacuum leak some where ??

Now you got me questioning it int77345.:icon_stressed:

here is another way to test, got this off of bp.

---to test the vacuum booster:
press the brake pedal and shut the engine off
pump the brakes and hold the pedal down (purging system of vacuum)
start the vehicle and the pedal should drop 1-2"
hold the pedal down and shut the vehicle off again
let off the pedal completely
press the pedal down firmly, noting at what height the pedal stops
let off the pedal completely
press the pedal down firmly, noting at what height the pedal stops. It should have come up higher as well as gotten stiffer than the last time
let off the pedal completely
press the pedal down firmly, noting at what height the pedal stops. Again, it should be even higher than the last
