AC Compressor

I recently had the rear bearing fail on my ac compressor and I am not sure if I want to yank the ac unit or replace the part. While I am deciding which to do would removing the belt to the ac compressor throw off the balance to a pretty much stock 354 motor, or have any adverse effects? The reason I want the belt removed is that bearing is making quite a rattle. Pros and cons please

Your engine will not care if the belt is removed or not. The rear bearing shouldnt be rattling if the compressor is not on. If the compressor is still raisin sands with the clutch disengaged then the clutch bearing is bad and you definitely need to remove the belt before it locks up burns up the belt and it winds up in the rest of them causing you great headaches.
The only pros I can think of are of course no noise, belt loss and maybe a very minimal increase in fuel mileage, very minimal, cons no a/c on hot days
as far as effecting balance, no adverse effects will be caused.
Thats my .02 worth
