Does anyone know what kind of trannys these have if its an auto? Do they use the 727, and do they have the same tcase (dana20). Plan on getting it and slowly building it up, I mean really slow. Was told it can be good for 4x4ing or good on a highway but can't be both.

Thanks

Whoever has the idea that a Scout II 4x4 can't be used on the street as a dd or as a trail rig is full of crap!

A '71? With the 232 motor it May very well actually be an "Scout 810" the precursor to the Scout II the first year of production. Those rides are somewhat different compared to a Scout II, we've discussed the 810 quite a bit around here if ya do a search for keyword "810".

With an amc 232, the slushbox will be a borg warner with a d20 transfer case behind it. That is...unless someone has previously swapped the trans.

Ez to tell apart, a borg warner trans has a cast iron bellhousing and transmission case (two piece). A t-407 transmission option (tf 727) will have a one-piece case and bell, and is cast aluminum.

If indeed the transmission is a 727, it will use the amc bellhousing pattern, not the ihc version or the chrysler version.

From what I read its a Scout II 810 model if that helps, I had a 76 and the body looks to be the same, I've researched it and see that it was the first year the Scout II body came out like that.

Well I think I've convinced myself to pick it up at the end of the month since everyone is out of town this weekend, possibly at the ihwr down here somewhere.

Thanks, hope it has d44 axles
