727 intermittent 3rd gear start out.

Has roughly 5000 miles on full rebuild with stage 2 trans-go kit and new tc. Tranny recently has been starting in drive from a stop. It comes and goes. Fluid is clean but I have not changed filter or fluid since rebuilt. Thoughts?

Ordering the lokar kick down kit kd-2727ht tomorrow. Do I need the spring kit as well? Kit # srk-4000. Thanks for all your help Mike. Much appreciated.
 
Don't really know what ya mean regarding the "spring kit"???

If you mean a throttle return spring kit, the lokar unit is fine but I don't pay that kind of money for the stuff. I just keep all sorts of springs and brackets on hand here and make certain that every vehicle I work with has an effective throttle return spring setup.
 
I just read through chris pucci's write up on his lokar kickdown set up, but he then showed a picture of the 727 kickdown kit and a srk-4000 spring kit.

Just wanted to know if I needed that as well to make the cable operate.
 
Ok, I've reviewed chris' thread.

The pair of extra return springs are certainly not required. They do add extra pull to the return system.

I personally never run throttle return springs like those installed on the downside of the throttle lever pull. All mine pull forward just like a similar oem spring.

If I don't wanna use the oem throttle spring bracket, then I either make a homebrew or use some of the aftermarket throttle return spring brackets.
 
Well, the lokar kit is in, but I am wondering if I still need to do more work to the tranny. My first to second shift is great. My 2nd to third is frustrating. The Scout now wants to stay in second for a longgggggg time. I either have to let off the throttle and it bangs into 3rd, or I have to give it even more throttle to make it finally shift. Pulling onto the on ramp on the freeway it's great and pulls hard, but town driving sucks. I have adjusted the kickdown cable tighter and looser with not much benefit. Looser I go, and it wants to slip and tighter makes the 2nd to 3rd shift that much harder. Thoughts?
 
This certainly sounds like an internal control issue. Did you adjust the bands as previously recommended?

There is a setting regarding the installation of the tf-2 control kit that will affect this issue. I'd say it's time to pull the valve body and go through it again in order to verify the correct installation of the system and then make certain the external adjustments to the valve body are done in accordance with the tf-2 instruction set.

Nope, but I just got the shop painted and tomorrow I should be able to get all my tools arranged and able to work on the Scout some more. Guess I'll drop the pan and readjust the bands for starters....
