72 345 head removal suggestions

Greetings all!!
Head gasket is showing major leaking signs but no oil in coolant or vice versa. Have 2 bottles of blue devil in and it's helping but I have a lot of work coming up and need her in the best possible condition. So next week the heads are coming off. My mechanic says it's extremely unlikely I need a valve job and I really don't have the $ for it right now. She runs so smooth I/we can't believe it so I'm hopi g that's the case. I did want to check with you all to see what to be on the lookout for though. Any strange IH issues that May come up? Are the radiator tubes an issue? Anything else to look at while we're in there.....etc;
fyi- new carb, radiator has been chemically flushed, new heater valve, new freeze plugs, hoses are fine....again, runs like a top, just steamy lol
thank !!!

Look for rust/corrosion in the leaking cylinder wall. Usually #3 or 5 and ridges/scoring too. Does it smoke on startup?

Ok, will look for that.
It does smoke on startup, assuming it's the valve stem seals which we are changing. Is that a fair assessment?
Thanks!!

Seals and/or guides. Replace all the welsh plugs you have access to while you're at it. They seem to rust out at about the same time as the head gaskets.

Have the heads checked for cracks. Between the valves and spark plug holes.
Fyi steamy indicates water in the cylinders, so look close for damage to the walls etc.

Yeah, lol, I think you warned me about that about 6 months ago, so all new plugs already! Those are a bundle of joy! Water pump is making some noise so ordering one to put in while we're in there as well....

Robert, yes, I will have that checked when they are cleaned and surfaced. The partial back story is the heater valve was corroded and leaked fluid that I didn't see and the gasket blew when she got a bit too hot on a long haul. Fingers crossed there's no cracks!!
