71 Scout II tail light removal

What is the best way to disconnect the wires from the harness to the back of the tail light housing..

You don't follow the wires down to a plug there you can disconnect both the tail light and back up light

There is a plug, possibly inside the frame on the right behind the bumper bracket. Once disconnected you'll be able to remove both lights as complete assemblies.
