700r4 dana300 shifting

About 10 years ago I switched from a 727 to a t19 just because I was so frustrated trying to shift the dana20 transfer case. Now I'm missing the ease of the automatic while driving. I'm thinking about switching back to an automatic but the 700r4 this time. I have an '81 Jeep Dana 300 that I assume will bolt up behind a 700r4. My biggest concern is the xcase shifting. For those of you that have done the swap, is it as much of a pain as the 727/20 was to shift?

You must have had a real stuborn d20. I used to run a manual as well, recently been wheeling a rig with a 727. Once you get the hang of it I can toss it between low and hi almost as well as a manual.

I think you'll be fine, just learn to toss the tranny between drive and neutral (with an ocational revese) and be quick about the t-case. Twin-stick helps as well, then your only performing one task at a time.

It was so bad that at times I had to unlock the hubs to get it out of 4low. Really messes up a group trail ride. :incazzato:

I have a 700r4 in mine, but I have a NP208 so I am not sure if my experience helps. Its a little stiff but I dont have to unlock the hubs to shift out.
