62 Travelette for sale SOLD

Partially restored. We bought this because my husband thought restoring a truck would be a fun hobby for him. Turns out, not so much. (very expensive lesson, I must say.) it's been mostly sitting since 2003 when the restoration work stopped. We used it to pull a trailer to yosemite and it did the job very nicely. In spite of its detrimental effect on my finances, I'm fond of the beast and would like to see it go to a loving home.

It was beat to heck when we got it. (in retrospect, it probably should have ended its life as a parts car.) the previous owner had used it to haul rocks so the bed had lots of dents. I think it's a 3/4 ton. It has a tow package and pto. Manual transmission 4 speed, 4wd.

What's been done to it (that my husband remembers at this point):

it has new glass, including custom windshield, and new windshield rubber, new carpet, seats have been double-stuffed reupholstered. New headliner. Dents in bed have been hammered out but there is some bondo. It's been painted but the paint job is kind of like a monet--looks great from a distance but a mess close up. New wheels and tires. New dual exhaust. New rubber door seals. New shocks, new brakes, replaced a coil spring. New aftermarket air conditioner installed under dash, needs ductwork but blows cold air. New window guides in doors. We've spent about $12k on this, and contributed to the financial well-being of many dealers in genuine IH parts.

What needs to be done: (note: this is from inspection by third party mechanic, mostly not my personal firsthand knowledge) brake lights work, turn signals don't. One headlight works. Needs new wiring harness. No felt or rubber on windows in the doors. Steering ram assist is disconnected. The front axle needs new seals at the knuckles. Needs new tierod ends. Needs new front leaf springs and bushings. The transmission needs a new throwout bearing. The transfercase needs new output bearings. The ujoints need replacing. The tach, fuel guage, license plate light, front turn signals, low and high beams don't work. Bed is only bolted down with 2 bolts. Needs body work and new paint. Hole and metal cracking by doors. Headliner needs redone. No battery hold down.

Asking $4,000 but will consider any reasonable offer.

Truck is located in rocklin, CA, outside of sacramento. Call 530-613-0213 or email dianeb36@hotmail.com. I can email additional pictures if necessary.

I have been looking for a travelette for a long time. I would like to see more pictures. Also, I live just outside of new orleans, is there any way to ship the truck?
Thanks,
larry

Yes, I can send more pictures. Email me at dianeb36@hotmail.com And I can send them. I will be out of town from Tuesday mid morning until Wednesday evening but can probably get some sent to you before I leave.

Great looking truck and a bargin at that. Wish it could have been closer to the south, but then those in the south rust quicker :).

the buyer had it shipped to south carolina, so it's in the south now . . .[/quote ]

what does one have to pay to get a vehicle shipped across country ? I could see the logic that it May be cheaper to ship than drive due to poor fuel milage, and one-way airfare to pickup location .

glad it is coming south, but its now going to rust . :)

No way you could drive that one far. Maybe a around town but not cross country. I know, I paid for the inspection to have her back out of our deal and post the details of my inspection on here. In all fairness I did agree to let her back out if she thought she thought she could get more money, and she would pay for the inspection(which neither one happened). However my knowledge and the shop (to no fault of there own) I sent her to, let her find a better way to sell it. Funny thing is that's the price we agreed upon long ago, so she made no headway other than a free inspection. Oh well, I'm sure I'll see it around in the se

You did a good deed to direct her in evaluating the deal, but at your expense. I know my wife would probably have a heart attack if she knew how much I have put in my old 62 c100 pickup. Even I can't believe it sometimes.

The parts suppliers just encourage me to forget it and come back soon. I had rj in spokane on speed dial there for a while. Had to loose his number and delete his bookmark just to stay simi-solvent financially. :)

so I can understand why someone wants a better educated guess on value. Most of the time our investment will never pay back if we went to sell. Even more true in this economy when old steel is selling by the pound, and not what you have in it in repairs and parts.

Just like me, you will find a better deal down the road.

Good luck

sure is a beauty with those side by side sealed beams.

Sounds like you May have been the winning buyer. It is a good looking truck from the pictures. My truck has the same front headlights, except mine are chromed.

All of those things listed as being wrong don't amount to much. What's another thousand (or two)?

I wouldn't have brought up those trips to yosemite either.:)

Oh I'm not worried, I've already bought 3 more travelettes. They are out there, and quite a few in good condition.
