345 block

Jeff, I was tearing down my motor today and when I removed the tappet cover I found this. I can kinda see this in my maintance manual. Just checking is this right or not. It looks like production casting. Hope so.

Sorry to not have answered this sooner. Yes these are normal casting holes. Nothing to be alarmed about.
 
Ain't that just a fine piece of automotive engineering????

Each individual block was "tuned" by hand (using a cross-pien hammer) for the most efficient lubricant drainback/return to the sump after use! Each block is unique, no two are the same, that makes 'em a "designer block" and really special.

Touches like this just add to the IH legend! And if you are very fortunate, the brokeoff chunkies are still down in the pan and will match the finely-machined drainback perfectly!
