266 V8 vs 345 V8

As a consultant I'd have give you my stock answer, it depends. What is your intended use of the Scout? What's the condition of the respective engines? I do believe the e versions of the engines got a bit better mileage and don't think there was an e version of a 266.

I would be looking at off road trails, daily driving, etc... But not looking to get crazy with the lift and/or rock crawling. Just looking to have a good time.

Ok, what's in the Scout now? Do you have the engines? A 304 is a lot more common than the 266, the same external size and has more torque.

I swapped a 345 for a 392 in a travelette pickup and wow what a difference the extra cubes make in moving that 21' pickup around.

I have the 266e in my 800 and I have absolutely no complaints. Just came from the oregon dunes and it seems fine to me. So the question would be horse power. For the intended use you described, a 266 is just fine. I you want more get -n-go, maybe a 345. I feel the 266 or the 304 is pretty well matched for the drivetrain on the 800 unless you want to go bigger there too.
