I just got a 1975 Scout II from a guy in florida and am hauling it back in a couple weeks. I am looking for guidance on where to start. The engine is a 345 and the tramnsmission is leaking horribly. It is not the original tranny, however, I picked up a gm700r4 from a buddy for a steal. Almost everything else is original and very little rust on the body. This truck will be used for medium trails and to show off from time to time. I will not be using it for really extreme crawling.
A few questions:
1. He says the entire top end of the engine has been redone, including the cam. Should I tear down the engine anyways? If so any recommendations?
2. Tranny considerations to look for. Should the transfer case be changed? I believe it is a 208 case.
3. Should Dana 60 axels be put in or just work with the Dana 44 axels.
4. Anything else people would like me to keep in mind.
