1980 Scout II Dana 44 knuckles

I have a question..

If I found a set of knuckles off a 1980 IH Dana 44 front axles would those swap onto my 1974 Dana 44 housing and help with my caster problem from a SOA, or am I just spinning my wheels trying to avoid the inevitable cut and turn of the knuckles?

You've got to cut and turn the yokes on the diff housing. If you used the whole diff from 1980 you would gain a little caster provided that your lift isn't too much for the front driveshaft u-joints, if it is then you need to turn the pinion end up to point at the t/case and use a double carden joint at the t/case. Any way you look at it pretty much cut and turn.

You don't cut & turn the yokes.

You cut and turn the inner "c" that the knuckles attach too.

1980 Scout axles are popular because they already have some caster built into the "c" from the factory (vs 79 & before).

Yoke and "c" are one and the same. The fsm calls them yokes. Iirc the '80 front diff only has a couple degrees of caster, not much but certainly better than nothing!
