My 1976 Scout ii brake lights won't come on. I've replaced the brake light switch, checked the grounds, and checked the fuses they are all working. I still have the reverse lights coming on, turn signals, hazards, and headlights coming on but the brake lights will not turn on. Kind of stumped any help is appreciated.

Sounds like a bad turn signal switch.
Would it be relevant that we recently replaced the starter? We didn’t have any issues until maybe two weeks of driving with the new starter in. Also if you don’t mind explaining how would the turn signal switch have anything to do with the break lights I’ve heard that answer on some forums but I’m not good with wiring and I’ve gave myself head achs looking at schematics trying to figure out where along the line problems could occur.
The starter wiring has nothing to do with the brake light wiring. However, the brake light switch wiring does run thru the turn signal switch. If you don't have one already, I suggest purchasing the factory service manual, which has wiring diagrams and will help you to better understand the electrical system in the Scout.

I had trouble with both brake lights flashing when using the turn signals. After re-wiring the whole car I found out it was caused by the crummy LED taillight bulbs the previous owner had installed. Somehow they got the tail light and brake light circuits combined. Incandescent bulbs worked fine. I wish I had those hours back.
