*****SOLD*******
1973 International Scout II for sale, Mountain View, CA.
We are the second owner’s of this scout. The original owner bought it new and drove his family to and from Tahoe national forest where he was a ranger. The odometer says 80k but we believe that may have rolled over once. During our ownership we have put less than 300 miles on the truck since we were constantly working on one thing or another. This Scout sat for most likely 10-15 years before we picked it up, and we believe it stopped running due to a pinched fuel outlet on the 33 gallon tank that was not letting fuel flow to the carburetor, which is too bad since it fired right up when we rerouted the fuel source to a gas can!
The Scout has a decent amount of rust spots including the normal areas such as rocker panels, below the windshield, side trim holes, and the top (unfortunately there is rot on the top where it interfaces with the body). The body is straight and has not been touched and I see no evidence of bondo or body work on it. Unfortunately, one of the hinges for the rear window hatch rusted, so we took it off to prevent further damage. But underneath the scout is solid with no rust on structural components. The paint is faded, but we enjoyed the look it had while it was with us. It also leaks from the oil pan a tad, just needs a new seal.
The truck runs great, it starts with ease and idles nicely. The exhaust does have some holes in it, but generally still works for being the original exhaust. The Scout drives down the road great, will hold 60 on the freeway just fine, and has a ridiculous turning radius.
