Once I moved back to the east bay, alameda, to be exact - I wanted to get another Scout. My first was a 1974 that I put a lot of work into, but sold when I moved into san francisco. I purchased a 1971 that was listed in alameda. Having a shared shop in oakland I was able to perform some more advanced work that I couldn't do in the street as was before.
It's a 304 v8 - t19 four speed - Dana 44 front and rears - pertronix ignition
here are some photos of how things have been coming along.
How I purchased it with lop-sided lift, lots of rust and carnival colors.
Rollbar addition and roof removal -
Power steering and brakes were installed along with all new hard lines front to back.
New thermostat, hoses and aluminum radiator help to keep things cool.
Sanding and more sanding reveals it's omaha orange original paint.
Different set of front fenders help remove some nasty rust.
Tangerine twist with clear coat from starfire (who knows how long it will last ? )
Original 15x10 jackman wheels shipped from ohio (shipping was more than purchase price). Before powder coating.
If anybody has one of these around - I sure could use a spare.
My friend adam and I start the application of 1976-1977 rallye stripes from Scoutco
Grille painted stainless steel to match rear step bumper and corbeau baja rs seats being fitted in.
Wenol, magnifying glass and one shot enamel for an emblem day.
Wheels powder coated and mounted on 33x12.5x15 gt adventuros. Shackles from IH Parts America, push bar and rear step bumper installed.
Far from perfect, but perfectly enjoyable.
Better shocks, valley pan leak, rear bearing plates, hidden rust repair next on the list.
Oh and a fan shroud hunt has begun as well.
Happily - the dash is stock. I added a vintage radson tach to the column. The corbeau seats and tuffy box make in the interior pretty comfortable and the storage is nice.
Welding up the seat bases for the corbeaus was cause for a lot of cursing.
Thanks for checking it out,
