I found on craigslist a 1969 IH cabover. The ad says its a 342 with a five speed. Is this an IH motor, if so will that tranny bolt to a 1967 304? Any info would be helpful.

It will "bolt" to a 67 304, but it May not fit in your vehicle.

342 is probably a typo for 345...

The IH 5 speeds were put in (an order option) the full size pickup and travelalls. From what I have read, they will not fit in scouts without modification - the transmissions are taller, wider and longer.

The 5 speed bell housing is unique to the 5 speeds - a 5 speed will not bolt to a 4 speed bell housing.

You will need the 5 speed clutch linkage as it May be different from what you have.

Im trying to go in a 1967 4x4 travelette. I might buy the whole truck, so I will have everything. It is a cab over its coming out of.

I would agree that the 342 is a typo. It is either a 345 or a 392.

Since you are putting it in a full size it should fit since the 5-speed was an option at the time.

It would be best if you got the whole truck for the transplant. It is hard to know exactly what all you will need.

The shift linkage May not work or will need some sort of work around since the donor is a cabover.

The truck I was going to get sold before I could get there today. I looked at a 1974 1 ton with a five speed but not sure it is the tranny im after. Re all the 5 speeds overdrive or are there underdrive 5 speeds? What is the shift pattern on the overdrive?

Most of the 5-speeds were 5th direct--basically a 4-speed with an added gear between 2nd and 3rd. The shift pattern was l 2 4 at the top and r3 5 on the bottom.

The 5-speed od transmissions were basically a 4-speed with an od gear on top. 4th was direct and the shift pattern was a bit odd.

1 2 od
r 3 4

1st and reverse are non-synchro

Mark is correct; you should get everything...

The cross member is probably different though I have no idea if a cross member from a cabover will fit a full size...

Shift lever will probably be different from a cabover.
