Anyone have thoughts on the best system to use if I want to change my distributor to an electronic ignition?

I had great luck with pertronix many years ago for my '62 chryslers....but I mean years ago. I've had terrible luck with pertronix this past year for my '49 mercury and my '57 lincoln....so bad that I reinstalled the points.

My current Travelall has its stock points. I was surprised by the odd points cover under the cap. Strangest thing I've ever seen. An opaque plastic round cover that lives under the cap and rotor.

Look into what bill hamilton does for his TBI kits. Bill is a member here, but also frequents other boards. The link below is a diy version of his distributor conversions. If you have done pertronix retrofits, this shouldn't be too hard for you. In the end, you'll essentially have an hei distributor that looks basically stock. Plus you'll be half way to having one purpose built for TBI should you ever desire that option.
