18th W C W N 2013

What about a new name and call it the first annual? The wcwn really doesn’t apply.

Something like:
the International Harvester hollister hills spring hangout.

excerpt from an email
You might be interested in what’s brewing down our way. The babs guys are getting serious about overhauling bill border and jim marsh’s original “west coast winter nationals” for 2013. We’ve talked about doing this at our dinners for at least a year now. You’ve seen some chatter in our private room recently. I guess you could sum it up that babs will play “host” to a rallye formatted, 3-day off-road happening at hollister hills.

Even though this will become a new, independent IH show, we will not solicit other lightline dealers for support. That said, it would be great if you guys, maybe Isa too, could come, set up shop and get in a little hollister wheeling.

Here are a few thoughts – in no particular order, rhyme or reason.
business stuff
-initial budget projections would be for 20, maybe 25 trucks in attendance. I think that’s doable.
-reserve area 5 next January 2 for base camp.
-preregistration and sponsor signup forms.
-everybody in attendance is a poster/follower on the babs board and is your customer.
-we’d need another babs private room for planning.
-once we get organized, I would like for us to have a room on the “sponsored events” board.
-to help raise a few initial dollars, we could offer a babs individual sponsorship for $25.00 +/-. This fee would be in addition to registration fees, what ever that works out to be. In return their name would be listed on the event t-shirt, as well as other places. There would be some appreciation swag to go along with it.
- on Saturday, the non-wheeling crowd could do a road trip in the area. Pinnacles national monument came to mind.

schedule
• Friday
open wheeling
dinner
• Saturday
morning / open wheeling
noon / lunch followed by the Scout games
late afternoon / lineup for people’s choice voting in area 5
dinner
• Sunday
breakfast, raffle, recognition ceremony followed by open wheeling.

meal schedule
• some catered – some we prepare
-Friday night / bbq hamburgers / the good meat and buns / babs?
-sat morn / extensive continental breakfast / babs
-sat lunch / chili dog / babs
-sat night / standup buffet / something bbq’ed, with sides / catered
-Sunday / extensive continental breakfast / babs / or something catered
-I wonder what it would cost in service charges to have pizza delivered Friday night?

something different
-option for Saturday’s Scout games. We do our sion of the “top truck challenge” at the obstacle course and the area 5 flatlands. Somehow divide up into several classes: mild and wild. We begin early in the morning and probably will continue well into the late afternoon, only stopping for lunch. We May even get permission to use the new obstacle area. I wonder if they would prep the mud pit for us?

awards
• 2 peoples choice award / best offroad & most stock
• Scout games

on second thought, give it a new event name with new traditions.
Out with the “winter” and in with the “spring”. Don’t laugh:
“the International Harvester hollister hills spring hangout”

Wow you nailed it carry ! actualy bettar than I thought . A evenit I went to at hollister last year had a trail map with check in locations . At check ins you recived a raffel ticket . At the end of the event a raffel was held . I was thinking somthing like that would be fun / poker run /scavenger hunt . I thin a raffel sat night would be good , could raise some funds too . A live band would be great :thumbsup: whos afrade of a littel cold . You never realy know what the weather will be at hollister in March . I am hopeing we will see how sucessful movie night is this year . :aureola: as far as the name wcwn I like the connection to the past . But thats just me . I would put that up to the group vote . At some point venders night / afternoon would be good . Alot of people out there dont know whats avaleabul to them . It might be good for ihon . They could connect with people who cant get up to grassvalley . I am looking foward to doing more brainstorming with everyone in the comming months . Joe :arf:

We shouldn't have to buy much stuff. We'll use some of the rallye gear, like the games stuff. I'll look into that.

Speaking of the rallye, I've gotta get the registration and forum stuff together.

If any help is needed, let me know. I normally have fridays through sundays off from work. But we have been working a lot of overtime on fridays. I only had 2 fridays off since the first of the year. And the batteries in this ole scooter is getten low - lol

if I did not have to get up and roll out of bed by 3:30 am during the week, I would show up more often to the monthly meetings

How about a poker run?

Best hand wins prizes....

how do you run a poker run?

Have "check-points".

Participants get an envelope at each check-point (they pick one from the pile).

After they get to all 5 or 7 points, they open the envelopes & make a poker hand. Whoever has the best hand wins, 1st, 2nd, 3rd price.

Get trail maps , pick out check points ,post people at check points,or have some sort of "mail box " for envlopes . Probly have some sort of time frame to have check points open . Best hand wins or just have raffel ticketsat check points . It is alittell labor intinsive b:icon_arrow:ut worth the fun I think .

So far, so good.

• where would you put the check points?
• are check points close together like from the obstacle course to sycamore or could you conceivably take mccray rd to the top of the mountain?
• would you have 2 classes of difficulty? One for stock and one for extreme?
• something like this for the extreme class. The jungle from start to finish?
• if it’s a mailbox, then the envelopes would have to be tamper proof, huh? :hand:
• would the mailbox be in plain sight or would you have to find it, like in a scavenger hunt.
• I guess the poker run would be in the morning and the vehicle games in the afternoon?
