Interesting. I can't recall ever reading about this particular swap. Doesn't mean it can't be done. With enough money, skills and perseverance, just about any swap can be accomplished. What are your plans for a transmission/x-fer case? What's a 7.3 weigh in at?

A buddy of mine is swapping a 7.3 into his 74 200 4x4. I don't known how the swap in the Scout campares to the truck but if they are about the same I can get you some info on it

They're really nothing alike. The larger bay of the 200 will be much more accommodating for this swap. The Scout is more narrow in every way, and shorter in overall length, making the bay a good deal tighter.
Sv engines in the 74-75 m/y pickalls were set back in the bay as compared to previous years for some reason. Could IH have been contemplating a diesel engine option in their full size rigs? They must have had some reason for fixing what wasn't broken. There wasn't any cost reduction to be realized by moving the engine, which was the usual motivation for making changes. Too bad they pulled the plug before the question could be answered.

On the binder planet in the diesel forum there is an extensive and detailed thread on swapping in a 6.9. They are dimensionally the same as a 7.3 and since it is a 91, it should be na, so no turbo to deal with.

I was planning on running a either Ford 5-speed or a c6 (what ever I can find for cheap) and prollaby doing a divorced NP205 because I am running Chevy 3/4 ton axles I am not sure on the weight of the 7.3 but I am sure I will need to do some beefing up of the front end yes at this time the motor is non turboed but I plan on turboing it once I get it into the truck I will check out that 6.9 swap though thank you

I'm the guy on the bp that swapped the 6.9l into a Scout. Not sure if you've read the thread, hours of entertainment!
