Default Side Marker Light Delete/ Causing Rear Park Light Failure????

1975 Scout 2, Stock 345.
I will try to start with "simple" question/ concern before getting into long story/ explanation. More details coming (if necessary).

1.) All four side marker lights have been removed and will not be going back (aesthetics issue for me).

2.) I have full light functionality EXCEPT rear running lights.

Could this side marker "delete" have caused loss of running light?

Thank you,
Jimmy

If you simply pulled the single plug from the two rear connectors it should only have impacted the side markers.

The bulk head connectors at the firewall that feeds these lights is notoriously intermittent with age and exposure to the elements. Consider pulling and cleaning those connections. I hard wired mine in and have not had issues at all with the rear lights since then.

Wire 68A is the one feeding the tail light and marker lights to the passenger side. The drivers side is jumpered across the back from 68A so if you don't have power to 68A none of those tail or marker lights will work.

Thanks DK. Sorry, going to ask as many questions as possible in advance since my time to actually work/ investigate will be limited.

Does 68A have it's own connection at headlight switch?
Could this potentially go back that far and be just an issue with that connection point?
If yes, what is best source option for replacement switch?
Generic parts store or need IH light line specialist of choice?

What is best method to clean bulkhead connector pins in place? Dash is fully installed, do not believe I can pull out the male side of harness.

I've used a fine wire toothbrush on the mail pins, and a fine needle file in the female sockets. If you see any of the female sockets really opened up, you can also use the tip of the needle file to try and close them up a little. If you can get your hands on a spray can of contact cleaner it would also help. An FYI, there is another bulkhead connector kind of under the brake booster for the front lights and horn.

68A does have a terminal at the light switch, but I believe it shares the same connector with 58. I would think your front marker lights would not turn on either if the switch were the problem.

I would bet a cold cerveza that the BHC is the culprit. Hondo has some good advice on cleaning/repairing them. He does abide.

If you did want a new switch Iím sure IHPA would have one at the Rallye. If not you could stop by gheir retail store in Grass Valley on Sunday after breakfast and pick one up. They usually open for a bit after the Rallye.
