![]() Hello, new here.
I have a '67 Scout 800, 4x4, three speed, 196, original axles, original ignition. I would like to put an automatic in, in particular, a GM 700R-4. My question is, can the SV adapter sold thru IH Parts America be used to put this transmission behind the 196? I've asked this on several forums but no one seems to have a definitive answer. Or have I finally had an original thought and I'm the first to attempt this? ![]() Thanks! John |

![]() I'm pretty sure it has been done before but not by us. Yes it will work but the transmission will be sitting at an angle due to the orientation of the engine mounts on your Scout and the adapter itself. You will have to use the flexplate from a V8 and remove the balance weight so the rotating mass doesn't shake your fillings out. Otherwise the swap is the same as performed behind a V8.

![]() Thanks Jeff!
I'm going to consider this! I have the transmission, and if I go with EFI, then the ECU could control the transmission as well! John |
