Re: 1973 1210 345 V8 Speedometer Cable & Vented Gas Cap

Welcome to the forum. Can't help with the gas cap question. I went to Stant's website and they didn't have any listings. You could use a seamstress tape measure for a close measurement of the...

Re: Grinding in transfer case

Yeah, that button was added by a previous owner. It is not original equipment. It also has nothing to do with your 4x4 function. The reason that area has a "4x4" label above it is, some models...

Re: 1965 D1100 4x4 driver/project

In this case, you are being paranoid. A couple months is nothing. The residual oil coating/film deposited the last time the engine ran doesn't just drop off overnight. When the dormant interval is...

Re: Grinding in transfer case

In addition to what's already been mentioned, you never want to engage 4x4 in any vehicle on a hard, dry surface. There's no better way to break shit then to do that. You should only engage it...

Re: 1974 Travelette

It's a beautiful truck. Since it's in the FREE section and your just dead set on giving it away for nothing, I guess I could make the sacrifice and take it off your hands.

Re: Broke my gas pedal

Ok. Someone probably got in a hurry and forgot to pull that piece from inventory to stuff it in the box. It can happen. Like I say, they'll make it right, if you give them the chance.

Re: Broke my gas pedal

That's business hours. Nothing can be done over a weekend or holiday. The bend might be intentional. If not, they'll make it right, but I don't see it affecting function at all. I think it is assumed...

Re: Steering blues!

Worn ball joints, tie rod ends, and drag link ends are all known sources of steering slop in these Scouts, and items that should be inspected/replaced before messing with the adjustment on the...

Re: Looking for the best choice in a front dana 44

Fubar-ed huh? That sucks. The least upsetting to the apple cart is probably going to be a similar FA25/26 that hasn't been fubared. I don't think IH offered a high pinion D44 FA. If you go some...

Re: Testing the Fuel Gauge

Yeah, the stock tire size was something like 27 or 28" diameter, so that's quite a change. The speedo adapter mounted to your t-case where the speedo cable is attached was calibrated to make your...

Re: Testing the Fuel Gauge

On your fuel economy figures, are those based on GPS measured miles or known distance measured? In other words, I wouldn't be relying solely on the odometer for accurate distance measurement,...

I edited your post to remove the reference to a competing vendor. IH Parts America owns and maintains this tech forum and uses it to help generate sales for their business. New forum members are...

Re: Broke my gas pedal

They ship UPS. Are you saying you NEVER order anything that arrives UPS or FEDEX to a physical address? I'd have a tough time buying that one.

Re: smaller tstat housing for 304?

Most commonly, heater hoses are routed down the driver side of the engine, then cross over behind the filter housing to the heater core. As previously mentioned, that requires a longer run to...

Re: Broke my gas pedal

It's a pre-fabbed failure point. Thin wall tubing with a comparatively large diameter hole punched through both sides for a pivot point, plus corrosion, plus repetitive stressful motion many times...

Re: 4 barrel or 2 barrel carb?

A good 2bbl carb is all that engine needs. Aftermarket Holley 2bbls in the 350cfm rating work well on these engines right out of the box. Avoid the 500cfm rating, however. To do a proper 4bbl...

Re: 77 SS2 D44 Axle Spindle Stub Needle Bearing

Cut deep enough, but not too deep. This will be the perfect time to change out your inadequate bearing retainer plates that don't actually retain the bearing and axle shaft in the event of a...

Re: Hub swap

Those are Selectro or Dualmatic hubs. I've not been into a set of those yet, although I do have a set of them on a project vehicle. The Warn hubs are what I'm familiar with.

Re: Hub swap

Are you talking about the screws that retain the selector dial? Those have always been Allen head screws in my experience. They have to come out so you can get to the snap ring. I can't recall and...

Re: What is this hole?

I seem to recall that a tapered rubber or cork stopper can be driven in. There is no pressure pushing against it internally. All you need is to keep debris from getting inside. I'd pursue any...

Re: What is this hole?

No, not both. You use the one that is best suited for the vehicle application, which has not yet been disclosed. If this engine is for a Scout II, you use the side location through the dual sump...

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your return to the insanity of IH ownership. Good looking SII there. It does appear that a previous owner has installed a home-fab shackle lift in an...

Re: T-19 Gear Box question

You want GL-1 also known as Ford Tractor Oil/mineral oil for your T-19 and your D20 T-case. That oil is plentiful and easy to find nearly everywhere. Save the GL-5 for your differentials.
