Nothing about those plugs say detonation to me. Many are white but this is also a smog calibrated engine and this look is to be expected. What I do see is oil burning, and in the 3rd to last photo...

I see a little hole in your photo, that goes down. The top of the discharge nozzle has a trough or oblong passage. See photo.

Itís hard to tell from the photo, but the discharge nozzle may be upside down. If it will help, Iíll post a photo of the correct orientation for the nozzle.

I didn't intend to infer that you were not experienced but in the majority of situations that leak down testing is brought up by a form member, it is miss used for the standard methods....

That is the correct direction. Your POV when looking at the doohickey is the same as looking at the speedo from the drivers POV (point of view). From the back of the speedo the direction of rotation...

The metering plate contains all of the low speed and premain jet calibration for a given application. There is a number stamped on the metering plate that relates to its intended application.

Unfortunately I donít know of anybody who repairs these. As you have probably read, between Michael Mayben and I we rebuilt them but after Mayben retired from IH stuff it ended.

On one that I rebuilt for a IH fan, I machined a plug and grooved it for an oring pressed it in. No reason you can't fine a piece or metal the correct size and silicone it in.

You have manual brakes and that master may be for a power booster. The geometry binding you are having canít be avoided. Is there a non power master available?

Do you have an emissions label? Do you have to smog it? If not use a vented cal that allows venting both ways. The pressure indicated that all venting out of the tank is blocked.

A 77 was a smog rig in CA IIRC, and the cap in that case is sealed so as not to allow fuel vapors to pass out of it but it should let air in to the tank.

What master # and for what? Photo of the push nut you are referring to would be super helpful. ;)
The actuator rod would seat hard against the piston and usually in a hemispherical seat.
