Re: How to Replace holly gold box with pertronix electronic ignition.

You need the ignition feed to coil POS and then you need the module connected appropriately to both coil terminals. That should be it.

Re: Exterior Lights Help

It's helpful to always think of where the power is coming from as being the origin point in relation to the fixture trying to be lit, which is the destination. So while you're technically correct,...

Re: Exterior Lights Help

Do you have an incandescent probe with alligator ground clip? If not, get one and use it to check for power in the socket contacts of the left rear light housing. If no power there, then check for...

Re: Installing Holley 2300

Looks good to me. Spring inside a spring hooked to a solid point directly ahead of the linkage. No tension when throttle is relaxed, tension when throttle is applied. The sooty discharge just...

Re: carter 800 cfm

Well, not so much the end of the throttle cable. You can change the fitting on the carb linkage inexpensively to make it accept that cable as is, or you can replace the whole throttle cable with a...

Re: carter 800 cfm

Throttle return springs are inexpensive and can be purchased in different lengths and diameters. You get one slightly longer than needed and trim the excess off the straight ends. Stud fittings on...

Re: 2 barell holley 2300 Carb- base plate replacent question

I moved your thread to the appropriate category. That breakage happens when fasteners get overtightened. Unfortunately, that throttle body is ruined. The JB Weld won't hold up to fuel exposure, and...

Re: Problem starting engine

What's your history with this Scout? Has it ever worked right for you? Is this an old or a new issue? Is the wiring harness original/stock, previous owner molested, or aftermarket? How about the...

Re: 72 Scout II water Temp Running at 220

I take it you have an aftermarket temperature gauge installed to be seeing these numbers? Is there any chance it could be an instrument issue? Are there other indications that the engine is running...

Re: Should I change my 4bbl to a 2bbl

The IH 2bbl intake is a common pattern that will accept any Holley or Motorcraft 2bbl carb. I know plenty of folks have gone with the Motorcraft on an IH engine. I'm more familiar with the Holley...

Re: Compression difference in a 345?

Yes, or wedge the linkage wide open at the carb. You want air to be drawn into the engine unobstructed. Is the engine able to be started and ran? If so, it would be e best to warm it up first, then...

Re: Should I change my 4bbl to a 2bbl

You won't be out anything, except the money for a new carb. 4bbl carbs weren't designed to work on 2bbl intakes. The adapter is clumsy stop-gap measure. Your best bet is to make the carb and...

Re: Compression difference in a 345?

Were all the spark plugs out? Was the throttle blocked open? Those numbers are consistent. There's only a 16 psi difference between the highest and the lowest.

Re: 78 Scout II Rear Wiring Mess

I forgot to mention that the early SII models used metal light housings which derived their ground via fastener and direct sheet metal contact. Your Scout likely has the all plastic housings which...

Re: 78 Scout II Rear Wiring Mess

I'll be referring to the FSM covering early SII models '72-74, but as it pertains to the rear wiring, I believe it should still be mostly, if not entirely applicable to your Scout as well. Beginning...

Re: Harmonic balancer difference?

The other part of your question about #8 plug wire location has me thinking that maybe you aren't ensuring that the #8 piston is at the top of the COMPRESSION stroke. It will be at the top on the...

Re: Harmonic balancer difference?

I can't give you a definitive answer about the balancer. What I can say is these engines were externally balanced, so ring gears and balancers factor into that equation. Swapping those parts around...
