Sure would like to see some pictures of the Sherman Bach Scouts.
When I got my first Scout, it had some Sherman Bach racing parts on it like Axle trusses and a roll bar which I still have on it.

I've heard of it done for performance reasons, probably not on non-improved cooling long block.

With the engine out, I always pop out the freeze plugs, then effectively remove the metal flash, sand, rust and whatever else made its way into the system over the past 40 or so years with water...

If you got it for a good price, and it needs to be solid and dependable to pass smog, a rk rebuild will do it proud.

On aluminum manifolds you must re-torque After the first start up, warm up to temperature.
Following the prescribed torque sequence is also very important.
You can't just plop it on there,...

Some racers are so critical as to not use any rag that leaves fibers behind, those little fibers clog oil passages, let alone leave the whole rag in there. Tear it down and find the source, then...

I always use the gasket with permatex aviation on both sides. My thinking is to make sure there is no pressure loss through out the system. Same with the o ring on the pick up tube where it fits...
