Re: Harmonic balancer difference?

The other part of your question about #8 plug wire location has me thinking that maybe you aren't ensuring that the #8 piston is at the top of the COMPRESSION stroke. It will be at the top on the...

Re: Harmonic balancer difference?

I can't give you a definitive answer about the balancer. What I can say is these engines were externally balanced, so ring gears and balancers factor into that equation. Swapping those parts around...

Re: Forth of July Sale!

One of the items, a RS t-stat, is on sale. So that's what fouled me up. The one thing I really need at this point is a fuel tank sender for a D-series truck. That's just pennies shy of $82. ...

Re: Forth of July Sale!

Correct. The figure I stated was the pre-ship subtotal. The grand total with shipping, but without the discount applied, would be roughly $130. I populated the cart from my wish list. Maybe that...

Re: Forth of July Sale!

Tried to place order online today, July 5th for three items totaling $105.91. Entered promo code "july4" and received error message stating "basket sub-total does not meet coupon requirements." I'd...

Re: No Oil in the Driverside Head

Jereman, your last few messages haven't made much sense. Incoherent babble mostly. I'm going to need a translation, or maybe you could try again in complete English sentences this time.

Re: No Oil in the Driverside Head

Did the builder offer any warranty? If it was a screw up on his end, he should have to make it right.

Re: No Oil in the Driverside Head

Cam shaft bearings. Carrier bearings are found either in axle differentials, or as center supports between two long drive shafts.
How do you know you're not getting oil to that bank? What's the...

Re: FUEL AND AMP GAUGE

You had to take a wrench and undue two nuts from the back of that gauge. Each one of the pegs had a certain number of wires attached to it. Maybe one had three and the other had five. Doesn't matter...

Re: FUEL AND AMP GAUGE

There are no loose wires for the fuel gauge. Believe me my young friend, I've got three of these, plus a Scout II, which has the same gauges and much of the same wiring. I've been fiddling around...

Re: FUEL AND AMP GAUGE

Ok good. The fuel gauge isn't even associated with the ammeter. They just happen to be in the same cluster housing, but they don't have any wires in common. Totally independent of each other. But...

Re: FUEL AND AMP GAUGE

I don't get why you would have added a ground wire to that mix when there was no ground wire to begin with. There's nothing but hot wires there. They need to be insulated from contact with ground...

Re: Fan belt configuration

Any way you can get a picture up so we can see what's going on? There is a belt tension adjustment, but who knows what kind of whizzbang, booty-fab farm-fix you might have going on under the hood.

Re: Fan belt configuration

Gates 7525 is roughly 53 inches and is the correct belt for the application. As Chappie said, crank pulley to PS pulley for your Scout. There's no need to reinvent the wheel or over think this. ...

Re: Change 1977 345 to Prestolite points distributor?

That's how you know you're on the comp stroke is by the air forced out of the vacant plug hole. If the piston was then at the top of the stroke as correlated by a piece of dowel rod or screwdriver...

Re: Change 1977 345 to Prestolite points distributor?

Something's not right. Zero TDC is a recommended starting point that is generally good enough to drive on, however many of these engines do benefit from some timing advance. Usually no more than...

Re: Change 1977 345 to Prestolite points distributor?

That's it. No fear of fire by hooking to the wrong one. You just wouldn't get the benefit. I'd give all those terminals some love. They look pretty crusty. Do it with your battery unhooked though.

Re: Scout II Steering Shaft Flex Coupling

That is commonly known as a rag joint. They rot and fail and you lose steering control. You have several options. One is to just replace it with a new rag joint:

Re: From Tahiti

It is a Scout II. The grille has a provision for a plastic center section. So the grille is '76 or later, but it might not be original to the Scout.

What transmission and axle gearing do you have? How about the tire size?
I wouldn't think replacing old technology with more old technology would help you accomplish your stated goal. The 392...

Re: Change 1977 345 to Prestolite points distributor?

Top terminal is S for start, bottom terminal is R for resistor. Other end can either go all the way to coil POS or just to the coil side of the ballast, whichever you prefer.

Re: Change 1977 345 to Prestolite points distributor?

That isn't the original connector. The factory used ring/eyelet terminals for those wires, not prong terminals.
