I would evaluate both the starter and charging system. If your original alternator is still present, it would be a 10DN IIRC. Basically it requires the external regulator wich may be causing issues...

IIRC I believe they are called reversing adapters. You would plug this in to your cable at either the drive train end or at the back of the speedo. That should give you something to google atleast,...
